At Inova Fair Oaks Hospital (IFOH) and WellStar Cobb Hospital, front-line nurses and ancillary providers, supported by leadership, are driving performance improvement efforts to better meet their needs as well as the needs of their patients. By implementing monthly combined operational meetings, visual management boards, and leadership dyads, IFOH has strengthened the partnership between nursing and ancillary services, which has led to improvements in nearly every HCAHPS domain. And at Cobb Hospital, an interdisciplinary team of nurses, pharmacists, and patient experience experts standardized the workflow of front-line nurses to improve patients’ understanding of their medications, substantially improving performance on the HCAHPS Communication about Medication measure.
