Bio: Dr. Ashley Holmstrom is the Vice President of Nursing at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital located in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Holmstrom believes that we can change the trajectory of patients’ lives by being transparent about growth opportunities and establishing clear expectations and effective tools to transform practice and organizational cultures. She is responsible for the financial and strategic operations, leadership development, engagement, and quality of care within the inpatient acute care and progressive care departments at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital. Dr. Holmstrom has served in various roles and leadership positions to include nurse manager and administrative director in acute care, progressive care, and rehab departments located within high performing and engaging organizations.
Ashley is a spirited alum of Baylor University, (Sic ‘Em Bears!) where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, and Walden University, where she received her Master of Science in Nursing degree, earned her Nursing Executive Certification, and received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree. Utilizing her skills and training, Ashley supported and lead teams to earn Magnet Designation, Comprehensive Stroke Designation, Joint Commission Accreditations, and the Pathway to Excellence Designation.
Dr. Holmstrom is extremely passionate about improving healthcare, holding herself and her team accountable, engaged, and committed to service excellence by sharing some of their practice outcomes at national and international conferences. Her abstract, “Using the Plan, Do, Study, Act Model to Improve IV tPA Administration Times”, and presentation, “Peer Panels as the Guardians of Culture” focus on advancing quality care and improving organizational culture. Dr. Holmstrom’s capstone project, “Improving the Care of Patients with Urinary Catheters: A Quality Improvement Project”, demonstrated how a multi-faceted evidenced-based CAUTI reduction program could significantly reduce CAUTI incidence, length of stay, and cost in an acute care setting.
