Press Ganey Chief Safety & Transformation Officer, Dr. Tejal Gandhi, Recognized as One of the 100 Most Influential People by Modern Healthcare

Boston, December 14, 2020 Press Ganey today announced that Dr. Tejal Gandhi, Chief Safety & Transformation Officer, has been named by Modern Healthcare to its 2020 list of the “100 Most Influential People.” Gandhi has long been one of the industry’s leading voices for patient and caregiver safety, devoting her career to advancing health care safety as foundational to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. In addition to leading Press Ganey’s Safety 2025 and Equity Partnership initiatives, Gandhi co-chairs the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety, which earlier this year issued a National Action Plan for reducing patient harm.

“Tejal’s deep expertise and fierce dedication to reducing avoidable harm have accelerated industry-wide efforts and made care safer for countless patients and caregivers,” said Patrick T. Ryan, Chairman and CEO, Press Ganey. “We are pleased that Modern Healthcare recognizes Tejal’s invaluable leadership, insights, and perspectives in these areas.”

The Press Ganey Safety 2025 and Equity Partnership initiatives, each launched earlier this year, are built around an open-source model of shared commitment to collaboration, sharing, and learning. The Safety 2025 program’s goal of industry-wide reduction of patient and caregiver harm by 80% over the next five years is founded on the company’s work with health care organizations that have achieved this level of success. The Equity Partnership is established on the belief that just as zero harm is the only reasonable goal for patient and caregiver safety, the industry must not settle for anything less than zero inequity in care delivery or within its workforce. Participants in these programs receive complimentary access to a variety of industry-leading tools, resources, and forums to support their efforts.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified focus on the matters of safety and inequity in health care that have been present all along and forced recognition of the reality that inequity is in fact a type of harm, both for patients and the workforce,” said Gandhi. “I am proud to help lead our national efforts at Press Ganey to advance patient safety and diversity, equity, and inclusion, issues the pandemic has made all the more critical to address.”

Dr. Gandhi has dedicated her career to reducing harm across the health care continuum, with the goal of creating a safe, equitable care environment for patients and caregivers, She has led multiple programs focused on improving patient and workforce safety, becoming a highly regarded national voice within the health care industry as CEO of the National Patient Safety Foundation, and authoring numerous journal articles on improvement in patient safety and reduction in patient harm. In 2019, Dr. Gandhi was elected as a member of the National Academy of Medicine. She is also a recipient of the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award, given in recognition of her contributions to understanding the epidemiology of medical errors in the outpatient setting and for developing prevention strategies.

The “100 Most Influential People” program acknowledges and honors individuals who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential individuals in the health care industry, in terms of leadership and impact.
