Providers Meet Patient-Centered Goals by Transforming Access to Care

Today the concept of patient access encompasses a wide range of operational considerations, from provider availability to hours of operation to care coordination. Because patient access influences consumer loyalty, patient experience, provider satisfaction, organizational productivity, revenue, market share, and more, many organizations’ efforts to transform the patient experience include innovative strategies and programs to expand and enhance access to care.

Three organizations, Lehigh Valley Physician Group, Kaiser Permanente of the Northwest, and Sanford Sheldon Medical Center, have improved patient-centered care delivery by incorporating patient preferences into care access operations. Their improvement efforts have led to substantial gains in performance on their access-related patient experience survey questions and their patient experience percentile rankings.
