Funding Opportunity to Support Adoption of Alternative Payment Models
From Industry Edge June 2016

On Friday, June 10, 2016, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced funding for the Support and Alignment Networks under the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative (TCPI). Over the next three years, the agency will make available up to $10 million to leverage primary and specialist care transformation work and education supporting the adoption of Alternative Payment Models.

Potential applicants may include health care delivery systems and health care delivery plans that are

  • Providing quality-improvement support to a large number of clinicians
  • Multiregional or national in scope
  • Involved in generating evidence-based guidelines for clinical practice
  • Effectively using measurement through clinical registries and electronic health records
  • Committed to expanding action to improve safety and person and family engagement

Awardees will identify, enroll and provide tailored technical assistance to advanced clinician practices in an effort to reduce expenditures and enhance the quality, efficiency and coordination of care they deliver.

The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015 authorized $20 million per year from fiscal years 2016 through 2020 for technical assistance to small practices of up to 15 professionals—especially those in rural areas, health professional shortage areas and medically underserved areas.

Applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of intent by July 1, 2016, and applications are due on July 10, 2016. More information on the funding opportunity is available here.
