The Antidote to Suffering: How Compassionate and Connected Care Can Improve Safety, Quality and Experience

Christy Dempsey, Press Ganey CNO and a registered nurse, will share the insights and experiences collected over the course of her 30-year career in health care that form the foundation of her recent book, The Antidote to Suffering: How Compassionate Connected Care Can Improve Safety, Quality, and Experience. Because every patient’s care journey is different from every other patient’s experience, she believes that the key to delivering superior care is to forge a human connection with each patient, and will discuss several ways to do this. Her presentation will remind us that while scores and percentile rank are important, the ultimate goal of health care is to reduce patient suffering, and compassionate, connected care can do just that.

Deirdre Mylod
PhD, Executive Director, Institute for Innovation; SVP Research & Analytics, Press Ganey

Deconstructing Stress and Reward to Address Clinician Burnout and Build Resilience

Preventing clinician burnout and cultivating the pursuit of excellence are significant challenges for health care organizations seeking to provide a safe and nurturing work environment. In this keynote, Deirdre Mylod, PhD, will present an actionable framework for deconstructing the stresses and rewards of the contemporary clinician’s work life into those that are inherent to the role of caregiving and those that are external to that role; and further, how to distinguish between the two and manage each appropriately. She will be joined by another health care leader to discuss the practical implications of the framework. Relating the framework to your own experiences will enable you to deconstruct the stresses and rewards in your work life and explore strategies to advance your journey to excellence.
