Chief Executive Officer

Patrick T. Ryan joined Press Ganey as Chief Executive Officer in early 2012, bringing to the company more than three decades of experience working with health care leaders and providers. As a client of Press Ganey for 12 years of his career, Pat understands the value of insights derived from listening to the patient’s voice. A longtime health care executive with a deep understanding of the complexities of managing a health system, Pat has now set out with the Press Ganey team to transform the industry’s approach to understanding, measuring and improving the patient experience.

Through Pat’s leadership, Press Ganey has advanced the concept of reducing patient suffering by addressing avoidable defects in care to achieve a truly patient-centered culture. The company has introduced industry-leading solutions that capture the voice of the patient, physician and employee to provide deeper insights, advanced analytics and actionable plans to improve the patient experience.

Throughout his career, Pat has worked with health care leaders to improve the quality and safety of care while lowering costs. He has served as a member of the Massachusetts Hospital Association’s Committee on Governance and the Boards of Trustees of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Lahey Health and Atrius Health.

Pat is frequently invited to speak on a variety of topics including health care reform and organizational and cultural transformation, and has addressed thousands of health care professionals to further the mission of reducing suffering and improving the patient experience.

Prior to joining Press Ganey, Pat served as CEO of The Broadlane Group, a leading cost management and supply chain organization. Previously, Pat served as CEO of PolyMedica Corporation, the parent company of Liberty Medical Supply, the nation’s largest direct-to-consumer provider of diabetes testing supplies and related services. While at PolyMedica, Pat established the Thomas O. Pyle Nursing Fellowship Fund, a scholarship honoring the late Thomas Pyle, one of the founders of Harvard Community Health Plan and PolyMedica’s former chairman.

In addition, Pat served as the chairman and CEO of Physicians Dialysis, Inc., CEO of Principalcare Inc., President and CEO of ImageAmerica Inc., Co-Founder and president of R.B. Diagnostics. He began his career working for American Hospital Supply Corporation.

Pat is actively involved in numerous community efforts and has served on charitable boards throughout his career. He is keenly focused on advancing the quality of education and sports activities for economically disadvantaged youth through various family scholarship programs. He presently serves on the board of directors of Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut and is a director of Affiliated Managers Group, Inc.

Pat holds a bachelor of arts in political science and sociology from the University of Rochester. He resides in Beverly Farms, Massachusetts with his wife and three children.


Joe Greskoviak
President & Chief Operating Officer

Joe Greskoviak joined Press Ganey in 2012 and, as President and Chief Operating Officer, is responsible for leading Client Management, Sales, Field Operations, and Educational, Advisory and Consulting Services.

Prior to joining Press Ganey, Greskoviak served as president of MedAssets’ spend and clinical resource management business. In that role, he oversaw meaningful business growth and the successful integration of The Broadlane Group business, its newest acquisition, into MedAssets. Prior to that acquisition, Greskoviak was Broadlane’s executive vice president and chief development officer. In his 12 years at Broadlane, Greskoviak held various executive roles and was instrumental in the company’s development and growth.

Previously, Greskoviak was vice president of business development and ecommerce at Premier Purchasing Partners, a division of Premier. He was closely involved in the formation of Premier's ecommerce company, Premier Health Exchange.

Greskoviak began his career in health care over 30 years ago. He is an active and influential leader in the industry and an advocate for a variety of health care organizations.

He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from DePaul University in Chicago.


Dr. Thomas H. Lee
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Thomas Lee joined Press Ganey as Chief Medical Officer in 2013, bringing more than three decades of experience in health care performance improvement as a practicing physician, a leader in provider organizations, researcher and health policy expert. As CMO, Tom is responsible for developing clinical and operational strategies to help providers across the nation measure and improve the patient experience, with an overarching goal of reducing the suffering of patients as they undergo care, and improving the value of that care. In addition to his role with Press Ganey, Tom, an internist and cardiologist, continues to practice primary care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Prior to joining Press Ganey, Tom served as Network President for Partners Healthcare System and CEO for Partners Community HealthCare, Inc., the integrated delivery system founded by Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. In this capacity, Tom oversaw efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of care in this organization.

Tom is a member of the Board of Directors of Geisinger Health System, the Special Medical Advisory Committee (SMAC) of the Veterans Administration and the Panel of Health Advisors of the Congressional Budget Office, and a member of the Editorial Board of The New England Journal of Medicine. Tom is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health, currently on leave from both positions.

Tom played a leadership role in the development and implementation of health care reform in Massachusetts, and was a member of the Massachusetts Health Care Quality and Cost Council from 2006 to 2012. He has held national leadership roles in defining and measuring quality of care, including serving on the Board of Overseers of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award from 2008 to 2010 and the Committee on Performance Management of the National Committee for Quality Assurance, which develops the widely-used HEDIS measures; Tom served as co-chair from 2002 to 2009.

Tom frequently lectures on the patient experience and strategies for improving the value of health care, and has authored more than 260 academic articles and two books, Chaos and Organization in Health Care and Eugene Braunwald and the Rise of Modern Medicine.

Named in his honor, the Thomas H. Lee Award for Excellence in Primary Care is given each year to recognize a primary care physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital who meets the needs of his or her patients exceptionally well.

Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in history and science from Harvard College, a medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and a master’s degree in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. He lives in Milton, Mass., with his wife, Dr. Soheyla Gharib, who is Chief of Medicine at Harvard University Health Services. The couple has three daughters.

Dr. James Merlino
President and Chief Medical Officer of the Strategic Consulting Division

Dr. James Merlino joined Press Ganey as president and chief medical officer of the strategic consulting division in 2015. As an accomplished surgeon and industry leader in improving the patient experience, Jim draws from more than two decades of health care experience to oversee Press Ganey’s consultancy division. Under his leadership, the consultancy team helps providers improve the delivery of safe, high-quality care in a patient-centered environment.

Prior to joining Press Ganey, Jim served as chief experience officer and associate chief of staff at the Cleveland Clinic health system, as well as a practicing staff colorectal surgeon at the organization’s Digestive Disease Institute.  At Cleveland Clinic, Jim was responsible for leading strategic programs to improve the patient experience across the system.  He spearheaded numerous groundbreaking initiatives to ensure the highest standards for patient care, improve patient access and referring physician relations. He championed organizational cultural alignment around the patient as a key component of patient-centered care.

Previously, Jim practiced at the MetroHealth System, one of the largest safety-net hospitals in the country. There, he was involved in several quality initiatives, including implementing care paths for the management of complex colorectal surgery patients and advocating for the implementation of the American College of Surgeons NSQIP program to the organization.

Jim is actively involved in many industry organizations and non-profits dedicated to improving patient care. He is the founder and current president of the Association for Patient Experience, a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the clinical, physical and emotional health care environment.  Jim is also a founding executive council member of the Institute for Innovation, a nonprofit research collaborative dedicated to advancing the science of improving patient care and performance.

Recognized as an expert in improving the patient experience, Jim is frequently invited to speak on strategies to redefine care around the needs of the patient, and has developed and led patient experience programming around the world. In 2013, Jim was named to HealthLeaders magazine’s list of “20 people who make healthcare better.” He has been widely published in academic papers, and in 2014, released his first book, “Service Fanatics: How to Build Superior Patient Experience the Cleveland Clinic Way.”

Jim holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Baldwin-Wallace College and a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Board certified in general and colorectal surgery, Jim completed his general surgery training at University Hospitals of Cleveland and his colorectal surgery fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.  During his residency, he took a two year research sabbatical to complete an AHRQ funded research fellowship in Health Services Research. He lives in Richfield, Ohio with his wife, Dr. Amy Merlino, who is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Cleveland Clinic.


Christina Dempsey
Chief Nursing Officer

Christina Dempsey is Chief Nursing Officer, responsible for providing clinical guidance to help clients transform the patient experience. She leads the team in our efforts to reduce patient suffering and develop compassionate and connected care across the continuum.

In her present role, as well as previously as leader of clinical and operational consulting services for Press Ganey, Christy has worked to improve employee and physician engagement, improve the flow of patients throughout organizations, improve quality and efficiency, and prepare organizations for health care reform. Christy is a registered nurse with nearly three decades of health care experience in nursing, perioperative and emergency services management, medical practice, supply chain and materials management, and physician-hospital collaboration.

Christy has been with Press Ganey since 2009 and in her prior role led the clinical and operational consulting division and helped clients embrace the clinical components of the patient experience by both redefining and redesigning the way patients flow and care is delivered in organizations. Christy’s work has led to significant results including reducing waiting times by up to 70%, improving patient satisfaction by double digit percentiles, developing and enhancing teamwork and leadership, and improving operations through scheduling, staffing, and data integration.

In addition to her role as CNO of Press Ganey, Christy has been a faculty member of the Missouri State University Department of Nursing since 2008.

Prior to Press Ganey, Christy served as the senior vice president for consulting services at PatientFlow Technology from 2007 to 2009 and also as vice president for surgical and emergency services at Mercy St. John’s, a Level 1 Trauma Center in Missouri from 2004 to 2007. Additionally, she has held numerous leadership and performance improvement roles. In these capacities, Christy oversaw double digit growth in surgical and emergency department volumes, reduced cost, improved patient and provider engagement, and better coordination of care.

Christy is involved in many industry organizations and non-profits. She is a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), an ANCC Pathway to Excellence Appraiser and an editorial board member for the Journal of Nursing Administration and a board member for the Association of periOperative Nurses (AORN) eChapter. She is also a board member of The Victim Center and Ozark Technical College Surgical Technology Program. Christy is a past board member for the OR Manager Editorial Board and the Missouri State University Nursing Program Advisory Board. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), AORN, American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and Missouri Organization of Nurse Leaders (MONL).

Christy frequently speaks and publishes nationally and internationally on patient experience, nursing, patient flow, physician-hospital collaboration, and balancing cost and quality.

Christy holds master’s degrees in both business and nursing and is certified in perioperative nursing and executive nursing practice. She lives in Springfield, MO with her husband, Tom. The couple has two daughters.


Patricia L. Riskind
Chief Client Experience Officer

Patricia L. Riskind joined Press Ganey in 2009 and is responsible for delivering best-in-class service and support to the company’s clients. Patty oversees a team of nearly 250 implementation and improvement experts, including more than 30 clinicians. Under Patty’s leadership, the Account Management team provides dedicated support in the execution and management of Press Ganey’s Patient Experience and Employee & Physician Engagement solutions. In addition, the Advisory Services team partners with clients to outline and deliver measurable and sustainable improvement. Patty is passionate about empowering health care providers with information to better understand their patients’ experience and perceptions, and use that feedback to improve care delivery while fulfilling regulatory requirements and achieving profitable growth.

Patty has more than 25 years of health care industry experience, focusing on utilizing and applying data and analytics for strategic planning, marketing, operations and quality improvement. Previously, Patty founded PatientImpact, an e-survey company that was later acquired by Press Ganey.

Prior to starting PatientImpact, Patty co-founded 3d Health, Inc., an ambulatory strategy consulting firm. Previously, Patty served as Chief Operating Officer of Tiber Group, a management consulting firm, now part of Navigant Consulting. She also served as Executive Director of Business Development for Health Forum, a subsidiary of the American Hospital Association; Vice President of Operations for Dorenfest and Associates, a health care data and consulting firm that was acquired by HIMSS Analytics; and Vice President of Product Development for Sachs Group, a health care data and information company.

Patty is actively involved in several entrepreneurial acceleration programs. She serves as a mentor for The Founders Institute, HealthBox, and has participated in Northwestern University’s Kellogg graduate program mentoring students studying entrepreneurship. Patty is the president of Kellogg’s Health Enterprise Management Alumni Club and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD), and several other health care associations.

Patty regularly speaks on a variety of topics including best practices for improving the patient experience and the impact CGCAHPS and the Value Based Modifier Pay-for-Performance Program will have on physician practice reimbursement, incentives, and performance.

Patty has a bachelor of arts from Brown University and a business degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She lives in Wilmette, Illinois and enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.

Matt Hallgren
Chief Financial Officer

Matt Hallgren joined Press Ganey in 2014, bringing more than 17 years’ experience in financial management. In his role as Chief Financial Officer, Matt will oversee financial strategy, and manage the company’s growth as it continues to deliver industry-leading solutions to support clients in delivering patient-centered care.

Prior to joining Press Ganey, Matt served as the Chief Accounting Officer at Heidrick & Struggles, a global executive search firm. In that role, he led the technical accounting group and managed all areas of financial reporting and accounting.  Previously, Matt served in the office of technical accounting at the Boeing Company.  He also held roles in public accounting at both Arthur Andersen and Deloitte, where he was a manager in the audit practice.

Matt received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Augustana College and is a certified public accountant.


Suda Suvarna
Chief Information Officer

Suda Suvarna joined Press Ganey as the Chief Information Officer in 2013 and brings with him extensive global technology leadership experience across multiple industries. As CIO, Suda is responsible for IT strategy and innovation, leading the team in efforts to deliver best-in-class business intelligence and analytics, technology and service operations. He is dedicated to delivering forward thinking and reliable solutions for Press Ganey’s clients in their mission to provide the best patient experience across the care continuum.

Prior to joining Press Ganey, Suda served as Vice President of Information Technology at Ascension Health, the third largest health care provider in the U.S with more than 150,000 associates across 1,500 locations nationwide. Suda was responsible for leading the development and implementation of technology strategy, architecture, design and standards, ensuring successful implementation and support for the technology solution for one of the largest business/operational transformations in the health care industry.

Suda has nearly three decades of global experience, including executive leadership roles at Enterprise Rent-a-Car and YRC Worldwide. His operations and consulting experience includes business development, sales, cost management, mergers and acquisition due diligence, integration strategy and portfolio management. He also has extensive international consulting and general management experience from his tenure with Accenture and Ernst & Young.

Suda has significant business change and large-scale program management experience, including implementation of a global ERP solution at Enterprise-Rent-A-Car. He was instrumental in leading a major merger and acquisition integration strategy for two multi-billion dollar corporations while at YRC Worldwide. Suda has also implemented large-scale, multi-lingual and multi-currency initiatives across several countries.

Suda is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and served on the Advisory Board of Teradata. He has a bachelor’s degree in Physics and post-graduate Diploma in Computer Management from the University of Bombay, in Mumbai, India.

Suda is actively engaged in his community, especially helping address the needs of children and families. Currently, he serves on the Operating Board of Lutheran Family and Children’s Services (LFCS) of Missouri and is a past Executive Council member of the Foundation Board of LFCS. Suda is married with two children and currently lives in Chicago, Illinois.


David Costello
Chief Analytics Officer

David Costello, PhD, joined Press Ganey as chief analytics officer in 2012, bringing with him more than 25 years of experience in developing innovative analytics solutions specifically for the health care industry. In his role, Costello is responsible for mining Press Ganey’s leading database of provider and patient data to drive more targeted performance improvement plans. Costello has a proven track-record for decreasing health care costs, and simultaneously improving clinical quality outcomes and generating positive brand affinity.

Prior to joining Press Ganey, Costello served as executive vice president and general manager of SCIOinspire, a health analytics company focused on helping clients translate big data into actionable applications. Previously, Costello was senior vice president of consumer segmentation and engagement strategies at Health Dialog. While there, he created and implemented clinical, analytic and segmentation products aimed at decreasing medical costs and improving clinical quality among its 20 million members.

Costello received bachelor’s degrees in business and sociology from Northern Michigan University, and his master’s degree and PhD in sociology from the University of Delaware.


Patricia Cmielewski
Chief Marketing Officer & Chief Of Staff

Patricia Cmielewski has more than 20 years of marketing experience across the health care industry and was named Chief Marketing Officer and Chief of Staff in 2012. Patti is responsible for driving the marketing strategy and programs to support the changing needs of Press Ganey clients during this dynamic period in health care. Patti leads a team of knowledgeable professionals who deliver exceptional materials, training and events to support Press Ganey’s full suite of patient experience solutions that address patient suffering and improve the overall care experience.

Prior to joining Press Ganey, Patti was senior vice president, strategic marketing at The Broadlane Group, which was acquired by MedAssets, forming one of the leading group purchasing organizations serving providers nationally. Before joining Broadlane, Patti was senior vice president, strategic marketing at Liberty Medical Supply, where she managed all patient marketing and communications for the largest mail order providers of diabetes testing supplies, medications and other products for Medicare beneficiaries.

Previously, Patti was Vice President of Marketing for Health Dialog, a leading disease management firm, Vice President at Hill Holliday, Associate Marketing Director at Digitas, and held marketing roles at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.

Patti received her bachelor’s degree in advertising from Penn State University, and her master’s degree in business administration from Boston University. She resides in Brookline, MA and is a trained yoga instructor as well as an avid animal supporter.


Devin J. Anderson
General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

Devin Anderson joined Press Ganey in 2012 as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. In this role, Anderson will be responsible for the legal, licensing, regulatory and compliance aspects of business operations and business development at Press Ganey.

Prior to joining Press Ganey, Anderson served as the Chief Legal Officer of Medco International B.V., the international division of Medco Health Solutions, Inc. In that role, Anderson oversaw and managed all legal and regulatory aspects of Medco's business operations and business development initiatives in Europe. Previously, Anderson served as Chief Counsel of a Medco subsidiary, Liberty Healthcare Group, and oversaw all legal and regulatory aspects of Liberty’s mergers and acquisitions, business development and operational efforts.

Prior to his tenure with Medco, Anderson served as the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of PolyMedica Corporation, where he oversaw all legal and regulatory aspects of PolyMedica's corporate strategy and business development initiatives, as well as advising the company on all aspects of corporate and securities law and corporate governance matters. Previous to PolyMedica, Anderson worked at the law firms of Hale and Dorr LLP and Pierce Atwood LLP.

Anderson received his bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Maine and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
